Amazon files layoff notices for more than 400 Irvine corporate jobs and its Jamboree Road Fresh store
California WARN filings list 422 jobs cut across Amazon's Irvine corporate sites in two rounds, plus about 191 workers at the Amazon Fresh store on Jamboree Road, which is closing.
Amazon’s two big rounds of corporate layoffs, about 14,000 roles announced in October 2025 and about 16,000 more on January 28, 2026, have reached its Irvine offices. Notices filed with California list 422 Irvine corporate jobs across the two rounds. Separately, Amazon is closing its Amazon Fresh grocery store on Jamboree Road.
What the filings show
California’s WARN law requires employers to notify the state ahead of large layoffs. The state’s Employment Development Department publishes the notices in its WARN report.
First round. Notices dated October 28, 2025 list 333 jobs at seven Irvine sites, with layoffs taking effect January 26, 2026:
- SNA11, 123 Technology Dr.: 178 jobs
- SNA16, 17300 Laguna Canyon Rd.: 64 jobs
- SNA3, 40 Pacifica, Ste. 100: 45 jobs
- SNA12, 20 Pacifica, Ste. 900: 17 jobs
- SNA19, 400 Spectrum Center Dr.: 16 jobs
- SNA17, 140 Progress, Ste. 200: 12 jobs
- SNA18, 400 Spectrum Center Dr.: 1 job
Second round. Notices dated January 29, 2026 list 89 more jobs at five Irvine sites, with layoffs scheduled for April 28, 2026:
- SNA3, 40 Pacifica: 34 jobs
- SNA20, 200 Spectrum Center Dr.: 25 jobs
- SNA16, 17300 Laguna Canyon Rd.: 24 jobs
- SNA12, 20 Pacifica: 5 jobs
- SNA17, 140 Progress: 1 job
All of the corporate notices are listed as permanent layoffs, not closures. The filings don’t say which Amazon teams or business units the jobs were in.
The Fresh store. On January 27, Amazon said it was closing its remaining Amazon Fresh grocery stores and Amazon Go markets. Its January 28 WARN letter lists the MAB9 facility at 13672 Jamboree Rd. in Irvine, with about 191 employees affected. It also lists Orange County facilities in Huntington Beach, Fullerton and Fountain Valley. The letter says the facilities will stop serving the public on March 13, 2026, and separations will start April 28. Workers who accept an internal transfer before their separation date won’t be laid off.
WARN notices count employees “affected.” Amazon is giving most U.S. corporate employees 90 days to look for another role inside the company, so the number of people who actually leave may be lower.
Why Amazon says it’s cutting
When Amazon announced the October cuts, Beth Galetti, its senior vice president of People Experience and Technology, wrote to staff that “this generation of AI is the most transformative technology we’ve seen since the Internet,” and that Amazon needed to be “organized more leanly, with fewer layers and more ownership.”
Two days later, CEO Andy Jassy told analysts the cuts were “not really financially driven, and it’s not even really AI-driven — not right now, at least,” adding, “Really, it’s culture.” He said Amazon’s growth had added layers of management that slowed decisions.
In her January 28 message, Galetti said the 16,000 cuts finished work that some teams hadn’t completed in October. On whether Amazon would now announce broad cuts “every few months,” she wrote, “That’s not our plan,” but added that teams will keep making “adjustments as appropriate.” Reuters reported that the two rounds total about 30,000 corporate jobs, nearly 10% of Amazon’s corporate workforce.
What it means for Irvine
None of the Irvine corporate notices is a closure, and that includes the Laguna Canyon Road office. Galetti’s January message said Amazon will “continue hiring and investing in strategic areas and functions that are critical to our future,” and Amazon’s jobs site lists Irvine as a hiring location.
