Acorns

Saving and investing app that rounds up everyday purchases and invests the spare change, alongside retirement, kids, and checking accounts.

Overview

Acorns was started in 2012 by father and son Walter and Jeff Cruttenden, and its headquarters is on California Avenue in UCI Research Park. Its best-known feature, Round-Ups, invests the spare change from card purchases into diversified portfolios. The company says it has had more than 16 million customers. In 2023 it bought GoHenry, a UK debit card and money app for kids.

As a consumer fintech, Acorns hires mobile and backend engineers, data scientists, product managers, and designers, along with compliance and operations staff for its regulated brokerage and banking products.
