Overview
Google is headquartered in Mountain View and is part of Alphabet. Its Orange County story goes back to 2001, when a single salesperson opened a Southern California sales office near John Wayne Airport. That office was one of Google’s first outside Mountain View and New York. In 2006 Google moved to the Impac Center on Jamboree Road, combining its sales team with dMarc Broadcasting, a Newport Beach radio-ad company it had just bought. In 2014 it moved into its own four-story glass building at 19510 Jamboree, near the Newport Beach line. Today Google leases about 196,000 square feet across 19510 and 19520 Jamboree, a complex informally known as Google Center.
Irvine is mostly an engineering office. When the new building opened, Google said its Irvine engineers worked on data storage, forecasting, inventory management, and search optimization. The Business Journal later described it as a hub for Google Analytics for Apps and AdMob, tools that help app developers understand their users and earn ad revenue. Current Irvine openings include software engineers working on generative AI for Google Ads and architects for Google Cloud.
