Linksys

Home and small-business networking brand known for Wi-Fi routers, mesh Wi-Fi systems, extenders, and switches, now a Fortinet subsidiary.

Overview

Victor and Janie Tsao started the company in 1988 as DEW International, working out of their garage in Irvine’s Woodbridge neighborhood, and later renamed it Linksys. Today it runs its operations from Irvine, near UC Irvine. It makes Wi-Fi gear for homes and small businesses, including routers, Velop mesh systems, extenders, and switches. Linksys says it has shipped more than 170 million devices.

Linksys passed through Cisco, Belkin, and Foxconn ownership. Fortinet bought a majority stake in 2021 and took full ownership on January 31, 2025, so Linksys is now a wholly owned Fortinet subsidiary.
