Syntiant

Edge AI chipmaker whose ultra-low-power neural processors and SiSonic MEMS microphones let earbuds, wearables, and other devices hear and sense locally.

Overview

Syntiant was founded in Irvine in 2017 by CEO Kurt Busch. It designs low-power chips that run neural networks on the device itself, for tasks like wake words and sensor processing. Buying Knowles’ consumer MEMS microphone business made it far larger, and SiSonic microphones now bring in most of its revenue. In 2026 Syntiant filed with the SEC to list on Nasdaq under the ticker SYTN. As of this writing, the IPO has not been priced.

The Irvine headquarters covers about 17,000 square feet of office, R&D, and test space. It hires chip designers, machine learning and embedded software engineers, and applications engineers.
