Overview
Zymo Research began in 1994 in a garage lab in Orange, started by founder and CEO Larry Jia, and is now headquartered on Murphy Avenue in Irvine. The company says it grew without outside investors. Its kits are used to extract, purify, and preserve DNA and RNA. DNA/RNA Shield was adapted for NASA to preserve astronaut microbiome samples on the International Space Station.
Zymo has facilities abroad, including in Germany and China. It hires molecular biologists, lab and manufacturing technicians, bioinformaticians, and technical support scientists.
