Broadcom

Chip and infrastructure software giant making networking, broadband, wireless, and custom AI silicon, plus VMware and other enterprise software.

Overview

Broadcom’s headquarters is in Palo Alto, but Irvine is one of its biggest engineering hubs. The original Broadcom Corporation started in Southern California and was based in Irvine before Avago bought it in 2016 and took the Broadcom name. Its campus on Alton Parkway in the Irvine Spectrum has two five-story buildings, about 660,000 square feet in all. Broadcom bought the campus outright in September 2026 for $325 million.

Most of Broadcom’s staff work in research and development. In Irvine it hires chip designers, verification and validation engineers, firmware and software engineers, and applications engineers.
